Default Hard First Start

RE: 2000 Accord EX sedan, 4 cyl., A/T, ~ 80K original miles.
Recently, my engine won't start on the first attempt of the day ( early morning ). Just cranks and cranks. I stop and try again and the engine kicks over right away. Also, the rest of the day the engine starts without any problem. Only happens at first try in the morning. Any input on this problem would be greatly appreciated.

You should check the fuel pressure first thing in the morning, see if it takes time to build up to specification, should be 38-46 psi. I suspect a faulty check valve in the pump letting fuel drain back from the fuel rail.

im having the same problem. 2.3 l lx model. when the car sits for a while it is very hard to start. i worry im going to drain my battery and end up stranded somewhere.
it has 164,00 miles and i did a tune up 2 weeks ago. the car drove great until a week ago. i planned on changing the fuel filter this weekend but i dont think its the filter because the car drives fine once its running.
it stalls when im driving under 20mph but thats the ignition recal thing.

how can i test my fuel pressure at home? before i spend the time and money replacing the pump myself

search for main relay.

You can listen for the fuel pump to turn on when you turn the key to the II position, but do not try to start the car.

Me, you are having "other" issues. Car stalling under 20 mph is not an ign switch issue....they will "give up" at any speed....could be 2 mph or 70 mph....the heat from the current is what makes them "give up" at certain times....cools off and work again for "some period".

Do you have any stored codes? What was replaced as part of the "tune up" done?

Get into a habit of turning the key to "on" and waiting for the cel to go off before trying to start the car....what happens?
