Ok, had to go out in the cold anyway....don't mind the spider webs....man I need to get rid of the 88 LXi.
Anyway, you should be able to see the cable going below the one hose....that is where the valve is. That is the rear engine "strut" mount going to the left/firewall. Yes the intake "tube" is off in this pic.
IF you have to change the valve, that little 10mm head screw in the pic is what holds it to the bracket.
Edit: best I could do. Even if the cable moves feel the hoses coming into - valve side - and out of - upper hose in the pic - to be sure you have about the same amount of temp on them. The valve can fail internally which means the cable moves but the inside does not.
