HELP!!! 93 accord Accelerates by itself
Well..... I bought this Automatic 93 Accord LX from the Auction [&:]....... so i was expecting some problems. So far ive fixed all the problems except for this one. ItAccelerates by itself, it does this when: 1. Istart the car in the morning. but as soon as it warms up it goes away. 2.When im at a complete stop at a light it will start doing it, but if i put it in park and accelerate it will go away, but as soon as im at another stop it repeats accelerating by itself. I was told i could be one of the sensors near the fuel injection, but I replaced it and its still doing it. Id appreciate if someone could give some suggestions about whats causing this problem.

Does your idle oscillate when your engine is cold? Does it settle down to about 750 rpms when warmed up?
Maybe the fast idle thermo valve needs cleaned and screwed down tight. Does anyone else know which faulty sensors could cause this problem (TPS, MAP, etc). I would figure that a faulty sensor would set an engine code. Did you find any error codes stored in the ECU?

RE: HELP!!! 93 accord Accelerates by itself
when you say accell by itself do you mean idle surges ( goes up and down ) ,or do you mean the car wants to take off from a stop ??
if idle surges could be the fast idle valve, vacc leak, low on coolant , base idle set too high
next time someone tells you IT COULD BE do not rush and replace parts,, it can turn out to be expensive ,,, you need to diagnose before replacing parts

Well.... when im at a complete stop atalight it will start to accelerate but since my foot is on the brake, it jerks forward but the car doesnt go anywhere. But thats only when im driving around. In the morningI start the carand the needle goes up and down but only to acertain point then goes back down to a certain point.until the car warms up, when it is warmed up it goes away completely by itself. I dont have too much knowledge about cars... 18 years old but learning [8D]..

i had the same problem. so i took it to the dealer and they told me to change the iac or ica valve one of those. becasue when its cold and not warm up yet it gets stuck after you step on the gas pedal.. maybe it could be that

Check to make sure that coolant is full and that there is no air in the system. Unscrew the bleeder bolt on top of the thermostat housing and make sure that coolant flows steadily out of bolt and no air is in there.
Tomorrow morning when the engine is cold, come to a complete stop and put the car in neutral. If the engine idle starts to increase or rises up and down, then you need to check your fast idle and iac valves. Since you are a beginner, a Haynes manual or a shop manual will be a good investment to help diagnose car problems (especially on a car that is 14 years old).
The valve doesn't need to be replaced. You can clean them out. Here are a couple of links on how to clean the fast idle valve. For the iac valve, just clean the two ports on it with throttle body cleaner. Try not to get the cleaner on the electrical connections.
The valves are controled by coolant temperature and have coolant lines running to them, so try to keep the coolant lines on there or you will get coolant everywhere.

RE: HELP!!! 93 accord Only turns on sometimes
Having another problem with my accord, car only turns on sometimes. In the morning before work it turns right up. but when i get to work (less than 1 mile away) and let it sit for 1 hour or two, it wont start right up any more. The car cranks but just doesnt start up. Acts like it has no gas, but checked fuel injecton and gas is pumping thru. after like 15 min of trying to start it, it does turn on but i noticed that it has a rough start. As the Rpm needle goes up to like 3000/3 the rough start goes away. After the engine is warmed up the car starts right up but if i let it sit for another hour it wont start. Any idea what can be causing this?
