Help 97 accord
#12
Jim probably found the information on an OEM parts site like hondapartsnow.com.
It is possible to get the distributor installed 180 degrees off time (guess how I know?).
A quick test is to get the engine to top dead center. The crank pulley has some notches on the edge and the timing belt cover has a pointer. The problem is that the crankshaft turns twice for every turn on the camshaft. If you have a compression tester, install the pressure tester into cylinder 1. When you are coming up on the compression stroke, the pressure gauge will start to increase. If you align the TB cover pointer to the notch on the pulley you will be at top dead center. The other way is to pull the valve cover and align the camshaft pulley with the notches to the cylinder head and have the arrow pointing up. Regardless of how you get to TDC, pull off the distributor cap and make sure the contact on the distributor rotor is pointing to the #1 cylinder.
Also make sure you have the spark plug wires in the correct firing order. The firing order is 1 3 4 2. If you start with the #1 spark plug wire looking at the distributor from the passenger side of the car, go clockwise from #1 wire to cylinder 3, 2, then 4. Hope this makes sense.
Other items that can get messed up. Let us know the wire colors going to the map sensor and TPS sensor. Also, let us know the wire colors from the harness going into the fuel injector resistor. This is on the driver's side of the engine near the firewall. Just google 97 accord injector resistor and look at the images to see what it looks like.
