Default Hesitation Stumbling on acceleration

Hello, new to the site. Have a 92 Accord Dx Auto with 160K miles. Car starts and idles Ok but upon acceleration there is hesitation and stumbling. Does not stall but feels like it wants to. CEL remains off and goes off after starting. Checked codes-none thrown-CEL stays illuminated. Replaced ECM with used one from the salvage yard-same problem. No codes thrown from tranny. Checked old and used ECM no changes noted on circuit board. Wondering if I should order a rebuilt ECM? Have cleared the codes several times and still none thrown and CEL on.

If this occurs at about 1500-2000 rpm, it may be partially blocked EGR ports in the intake manifold causing the hesitation. Too much EGR gets pushed into open ports when other ports are blocked causing overlean mixture and hesitation. I have attached a cleanout procedure that should help.

good luck

@elguyo if you were to move off the throttle and put the throttle back to where it was does this fix the problem for about 5 secs or so???

Check the conditions of the spark plugs + wires. Is the throttle body dirty?

I tried removing the egr vacuum hose #16 and brought the engine up to operating temperature and took the car for a drive-same behavior and engine light came on I assume because of the disconnected hose. When I back off the throttle and then give it gas still has the hesitation and stumbling. Cleared the codes and started the engine then checked the codes again-still get engine light on but no codes thrown. Still need to check ignition components plugs, etc. Could a failing ignitor or a loose ignitor wire or coil do this? Have replaced the ignitor in the past.

Your car has an ECU and TCU. What was the Honda part number on the part you replaced? It should have been on the sticker. An example ECU number is 37820-P0A-A51.

Also, check the 7.5amp backup/radio fuse in the engine bay fuse box. Also check the 10 amp ECU fuse, cant remember the location of that fuse.

Did the D4 light or S light flash any codes when you checked codes?

Fuses ok. I replaced the original ECU 37820-PT3-A54 with a ECU from a 93 automatic from a u-pull it place-that unit is currently installed so I need to remove it in order to get the numbers. Before I installed it I did note that the number started with 37820. The car behaved the same with the unit from u-pullit installed.

Rarely, but does happen, that fully-warmed drivability problems are fixed by a new O2 sensor.

Are your problems present w/ cold engine or only fully warmed?

Does engine warm to correct operating temp; temp gauge ~ 1/2 way point

good luck
