Honda accord 1998 bangs and thud when accelerating and decelerating
Hello to you all in this forum, is being long time now. I just notice my car bangs and thud recently when I am about driving off and also when slowing down. The auto transmission fluid was last changed this year in April. The D4 light is not flashing. This similar incidents happens in 2013(the car was bought in 2012), we were able to fish out the problem then and it happens to be one of the solenoid( gear 1 and 2), A and B. We replaced it with another and the gear shifts smoothly, that was in 2013. I don't know if similar incidents is repeating itself now. When the thudding and banging is too much I will have to shift the lever to D1 and the banging stops then I will gradually move it to D3. Presently in D3 the banging reduces.
Any advice and suggestions in resolving this problems. I will be much glad to hear from you guys.

Look at the motor and transmission mounts to see if the rubber is completely cracked.
You can try grabbing the top of the engine and shaking to see if you have any movement at one of the motor mounts.
If you have an assistant, you can have them put the car in drive, put on the e-brake and press down hard on the regular brake pedal. You stand off to the side of the car and watch while you assistant puts the car into drive and slightly revs the engine with the gas pedal. Look for excessive movement on the mounts and listen for noises. Make sure you are off to the side of the car when doing this.
Here is a video on what I'm describing.

Thanks to you Pahonda for replying. Is good hearing from you for such a long time.
Actually the motor mounts underneath the fuel injector was completely cracked, it has even torn apart. Initially my mechanic saw it but I was doubting it if that could have cause the eratic shift in gears with the tachometer revving as high as 5 to 6 before shifting on accelerating from stop. This happens occasionally. I will replace the motor mounts during the weekend. I am still believing there is something wrong with the shifting. Now this is what I do to make it shift smoothly. When I start the car and about to move i shift the lever to D1, as I gain momentum I take it to D2 then D3. At this point no hard shifting occurs. As at this point the thudding and banging is due to cracked motor mount , that will be corrected.
I am planning doing scanning tomorrow to see if any faults code would be revealed.
Thanks

Good day to u all in the forum. I was able to carry out the scanning exercises on my Honda accord 1998 model. The scanning results reveals the following codes: P1381, P1491, P0141, P1456, P0730( incorrect gear ratio). Could it be that P0730 codes responsible for the erratic shifts from gear 1 to 2. I will be seeing a gear specialist tomorrow so that we can assess any defective solenoids. Any other suggestions from you guys will also be helpful.
Thanks and God bless

P0730 is a problem with the hydraulic shift control system inside the transmission. Could be clogged screens in the solenoids, but could be an internal clog or stuck valve inside the transmission. Changing the automatic transmission fluid may help fix the problem. Depending on what you find, the transmission may need to be replaced or rebuilt.

Good day to you all, the mechanic was able to do some workup cleaning of the solenoids, the screen of the two solenoids were clogged with dirts and debris. It was well cleaned now. Is shifting smoothly as of now but I will need to drive the car for a longer miles and then ascertain if the rough shifting Will still occurs. Definitely I still plan to change and replaced auto transmission fluids and put a new one just to flush some of the dirts away. I will informed the mechanic to clean the filter in transmission during the process of changing the fluids. I will drive the car for some miles and see how it goes and then get back to the forum on outcome. Thanks
