Default Honda Accord 2000 SE Transmission problem?

when I accelerate on low gear, RPM goes up but speed does not until car jerks to match the RPM to the speed. Somewhat frequent, but not too bad that I can still drive. I would just let go of accelerator if it happens to lower the RPM to match the speed.

My coworker says change the transmission fluid and the filter.

I am looking at autozone, but it seems the gasket for the pan does not come with the filter and I cannot find the gasket anywhere.

any thoughts?

Is this an automatic or manual transmission?

EDIT: Is this a 4 or 6 cylinder accord?

It sounds like the transmission is on it's way out.

The accord internal transmission filter is not accessible unless you take apart the transmission. Since you are slipping gears, doing a drain/refill using Honda ATF is something you may want to try. The transmission drains three quarts (has around 9 quarts total). So after the first refill, drive the car, then repeat.

You may also want to check the shift solenoids for clogged filter screens and clogging in the solenoid.

Checking for codes is also not a bad idea in case a sensor is bad.
