ok thanks, yeah my honda was my brother's before mine, and before that i'm not sure what the owner did with it or if he took care of it. i just purchased a new timing belt because it makes a loud screeching sound... i also got the other belt incase it might be that one. yah i read on how this might take 5 hours to do... i guess i'll have to make it a weekend project if i can probably next week. are things for the water pump purchased in town? miles are 210,000 which is quite a bit i realize... but i'm going to soon get a new car and i'd love to make this a car i can just fool around with and take my time on it since i won't be needing it. but fixing it up before i sell it would be nice. and sorry i misunderstood the last post... i didn't connect that the water pump would affect the fans but thinking about it i can see how it affects it. so new project = timing belt and water pump. should i ask how to do that or would i be better off purchasing a honda manual?

if the lower radiator hose feels hot , than it means t-stat is opening, means water pump is working properly..... if water pump is not leaking and you are not due fpr a timing belt ,,By replacing the water pump you are wasting your money and time,,,,,,,,,

the problem is not the water pump...

you need to trouble shoot it step by step,,,,,,,,follow the instruction i gave you , do not skip a step here and there

DO NOT start replacing parts just because someone here says it is this , it is that.. you need to DIAGNOSE, DIAGNOSE DIAGNOSE, then fix and or replace only what is needed ..

have you tried anything at all of what i have adviced you ?? if not ..why not ?? and if yes post the results..

the bottom radiator hose is not nearly as hot as the top one... it's always within a temperature i'm capable of having my hand on it without any discomfort. the fuse i'm not sure how to check, and i have yet to use a meter to see if the fans are messed up. but yeah the radiator hose is very cool compared to the top one.

Sorry Deserhonda I wasn't trying to go against your suggestions, I think he should definetly start with checking fans and working back, checking hoses, etc.. I was saying that if the timing belt hasn't been done in a while it should be done anyway, and usually you replace the waterpump, etc, while your in there doing that, right?

I'd still put money on the waterpump

Good luck copa708, if you are planning on doing your own work on a 210k car, I think you might want to purchase a service manual

if the lower radiator hose is just cool ,,whle the top hose is hot.........you could have as tuck closed t-stat ..or corroded fins in the water pump , or very low on coolant ..if t-stat does not open fans will not come on..

No need to be sorry my friend.. everyone is entitled to give opinions and opinions will differ ,,
I agree with you that if timing belt need to be done, replace the pump at same time .. but he says the fans do not work , so i want to help him fix that ,,,,,,Now he said that lower hose feels cool ,, if so , it could very well be the water pump fins worn and not circulating the coolant.. but he needs to chk the coolant level and the t-stat first ..

FYI - Timing belts don't make loud screeching sounds - the tensioner bearings could. But it's usually your drivebelts that do that.

Didnt you all say that there was a kit on ebay that you could buy with all the belts, bearings,etc... that he would need. This is probably his most cost efficient bet if hes hearing the screeching anyway right? Not quite sure just like the info my belts are way past due at 168K now and getting really worried!! hey if you all dont mind could you post that link for the kit? Thanks guys

I don't know the rules for posting ebay links on this forum, but if you have basic motor skills you just have to type in "Accord Timing belt Kit" in ebay search.. check it out.

i just replaced my thermostat and i'm sure the other one probably worked too. also i just put in new coolant, i drained the old one out and just put new coolant in there. so i guess it should be the water pump which i'd probably have to change anyways along with the timing belt. this is all fine and dandy as long as it fixes it... if not well then i guess it's probably due for fixing anyhow.
