Default How to install new ECM in 1995 Honda Accord LX

Hi, I have a 1995 Honda Accord LX automatic with the 2.2L non Vtec 4 cylinder.

I got error code 14 off the dash (D4 light blinks 1 long 4 short).

I bought a used ECM from amazon and the guy will program it and update it for my car before sending it. He asked for the VIN # and the mileage.

I have the kickplate off in the passenger floor area. What is the procedure to put the new one in? Should i have the memory fuse out or the battery disconnected before i install the new one, disconnect one of them after i install, or don't disconnect at all because it will mess the new ECM up?

Thanks for any help.

Replacing the ECU for a Trans Control Unit fault may not fix the problem for two reasons: 1) the problem may not be the TCU and 2) if there's a circuit board problem, it's probably in the TCU and not the ECU.

Code 14 is "Linear (line pressure control) solenoid open or shorted.". This may be an internal trans fault and difficult/impossible to repair.

I don't have manual at office, so will have to defer a more complete response until this evening.

good luck

TH, in the 95 shop manual it says a code 14 is a communication problem between the ECU and TCU. The ECU is listed as a likely cause.

Disconnect the battery. Then unplug the connectors from the ECU and TCU. Swap out the ECUs. Plug back in connectors, connect battery, then see if the problem is fixed.

ok do i have to unplug the TCU if i'm not replacing it? I'm only replacing the ECU.

I guess I'll just disconnect them both anyway thanks for the advice I'll let you know how it goes.

It will probably make pulling up that plate easier. You aren't going to hurt anything by unplugging the TCU. Just make sure the battery is disconnected before you do the work.

Default Fixed!

I installed the ECM as instructed and no more blinking D4 and it runs great. Thanks for the help guys. I couldn't find anything online or in the manual that tells the correct procedure, so hopefully other people will find this now who have this problem.
