I scewed up, how bad? Need help please!
am in the midst of replacing timing and balance belts and tensioners...everything ok until I turned crankshaft counterclockwise to move the requisite 'three teeth on the camshaft pulley' to tension the belts.... WITHOUT removing the rear balance shaft locking bolt.
go ahead and say it...what a bleedin' idiot!!!
Here's where I'm at now:I removed the locking bolt, removed balance shafts belt and attempted to re-tension timing belt. Now the tension looks good BUT, w/ the camshaft aligned perfectly the crankshaft looks about 5 degrees off (before TDC).
Now what?
Do I pull the timing belt and miove the crank the 5 or so degrees to line up with the cam?
[sm=feedback.gif] HELP.
...I would like to know if anyone else has pulled this bonehead rookie move and what damage resulted, if any.
Would very much like to hear any suggestions and/or advice regarding next steps to take, please!
oh, yeah. my car is a 93 accord wagon w/294000+ miles!
Thanks in advance for any thoughts/help.

I only did my TB one time and didn't make that mistake. You definitely need to make sure that the timing belt is properly aligned. Did the crankshaft actually move with the retaining bolt holding the rear balance shaft?
I sounds like you may have jumped the belt 1-2 teeth without realizing it.
I don't know if you did any damage to the valves. I would think that it would depend on how much you moved the crankshaft.

update: when I rechecked the alignments after making my last post, everything was perfect....go figure!!
BTW: in regards to TexasHonda's warning about timing belt tensioner installation, AMEN, brother! -I noticed that same lack of info in both of my service manuals about that little 'stud'- seemed to me to be a rather large oversight- Thank you!

whoops! in reply to PAhondas' post: yes, the crank did move with the rear shaft locked- I did hear a noise at the time that makes me think, along with the visual evidence, that the balance shafts belt jumped a few teeth.
Thanks for respondin, I appreciate any input.

This is easy to do, and I have done it. Balance shaft belt will jump cogs on drive sprocket for sure. Nothing is harmed unless you sheared the retaining bolt through the rear balance shaft, which would be hard to do w/ only the balance shaft belt pulling the balance shaft.
If you failed to realign the balance shafts, vibration might be a problem, but no harm would arise to my knowledge.
