Default Ignition starting in park problem

I stalled my 98 Accord 6cyl.auto on a downward hill and when I shifted into park to restart,I had all the dash lights but couldn't get it to do anything but click. A policeman helped by forcing the car into neutral and I coasted the car off the road and to level ground. I tried the car again and same result ,'click'. Jumping the car would not change anything. It seems like a simple problem, can anyone give me any advice. Taking the console apart I found a broken clip(female) that I can't find it's male counterpart. Does this cause my problem? Thx for any advice.

Sounds like you have 2 problems, where the engine stalled while running and now you can't get the starter to operate to crank the engine.

Have you had any recent work done on the car?

Can you post a picture of the broken clip?

Does your car have an aftermarket security system installed?
