Default Intermittent Multiplexing problem??? Multi Intermittent Component Malfunction

Ok so.....

Application:

1995 Honda Accord 2.2L non-vtec Accord Automatic

Problem:

From what I can notice so far >>

*Reverse Lights
*Shift Interlock
*Clock
*Power Windows
*Gauges

First problem with car 6 months ago, speedometer was sporadic, ... changed VSS and problem was still there. Learned to Live with the problem and resorted to My App on the phone for speed. Didnt have the time to diagnosis the circuit and check the gauges and all that, after all it was just the speedometer.... right?

6 months later it started out one day my windows were starting to do wierd things, sometimes they worked sometimes they didn't. Very Bizarre.... When they didn't work, i check the circuit.... Fuses Check out, Everything was good. However I could probe the relay in the engine compartment and the windows functioned. Ok so.... maybe master switch..... nope same thing.

Couple weeks later (windows still intermittent *now and then* problems) .... Got in my car and Couldn't Engage the parking lever into Drive after car started. Had to put key in interlock release to get vehicle into drive to move. Thats when I noticed the Clock was also not coming on, and not only wsa the speedo spiratic ....... it wasnt .... it was motionless and dead along with all the other gauges .. dead.

Drove like this for a couple days.... then poof.. got in one day everything worked..... clock ...interlock.... reverse lights..... gauges...... except Speed was still sparatic.

Then again one day dead, then the next day good again......

So im sitting here pulling my hair out, knee deep in schemtaic..... I traced all the circuits thru the dash for each component, doing what we call the wiggle test..... wiggling harness around, possible in hope to find a short or somthing. all circuits checked out for the most part.... they wernt getting source voltage though.... fuses check out.... re-checked all wiring again...... anyhow i see in my wiring diagram what honda calls a Integrated Control unit......

what i am remembering from school was something about multi-plexing..... does this ICU go out often and can it cause wako stuff to start happening electrically in the vehicle, i am not to expirenced with this problem cause ive never ran across it before....

is there someone out there who has had similiar problems..... and was the ICU involved....

please any help would be greatly appreciated.

ohohoh and to top this off today i noticed KOEO when i hit the A/c button on the dash, my cooling fans kicks on,.. heck yah!! this will be great when my coolant temp switch for the fans fails...... but serisoulty wtf!@

Your last paragraph suggests possibility of faulty keyswitch assy. Usually this results in no-start issues, but it may be possible to have your issues w/o no-start. Hard to see any other way power could get to the cooling fans unless keyswitch has internal short.

good luck

I'm old and slow....help me understand "KOEO"? I came up with a few things but not sure....I only learned what IMO was six months ago.

I am no expert just throwing some things out. Can you trace all these components back to the ICU via the schematic? If so it could be the ICU. I have noticed the ICU on my accord was made by TRW in the USA, so figure its not original. The ICU is a printed circuit board with lots of electronic components - have no idea how you could test it. If not all the components are running from the ICU, are they all coming from the ICU & fuse block under the dash? Do you have a water leak that may be getting to the fuse block? Possible the fuse block is bad, not sure how to check that short of pulling it and looking at it.

For P'man: KOEO is "Key Off-Engine Off". I'm no whippersnapper, but I know that!

ICU-Integrated Control Unit does control door locks but has nothing to do w/ AC and cooling fans, hence suggestion it might be ignition keyswitch assembly.

Strange problem no doubt.

good luck

TX, Thanks...I was trying to decided between that and Key On, Engine On...anyway.

Lots of issues that maybe realted. I'd pick one and trace it. Interlock, are you getting no power in? Is there good ground (G404 and G402 ??)?

EDIT: Did the clock have the correct time when it came back on? It shares the same G402 and G404 ground.

same model and year
mine is similar..in a few ways.
I was having no crank, no start, new battery. Just one click and nothing on the key turn.
No lights on dash, except battery light are lit.
Head lamps, interior lights, radio, and heater fan, work fine - until you turn the key, and then fan and radio go off, but all lights stay on. No window operation, sun roof, clock, or rear window defrost, period.
I jumped from positive on battery to the ignition wire on the solenoid and it started.
Stiil same issue with all of the above, but can't get the car out of gear even when running.
Shut car down and I am back to beginning no crank no start.
Ideas?
