Default JDM F23 engine swap questions

Hi, I recently blew a headgasket in my 98 EX sedan with 186k I though I might as well swap the engine now since I dont know what else might go wrong later. I just changed the timing belt, cam & crank seals, water pump, and the ac/ps belts too. I put new spark plugs, distributor cap and rotor, and wires in a few months ago, changed the oil at the dealer and this happens... Im thinking of a fresh new start with a jdm motor.

The thing is, I have a F23A4 and I dont think the jdm motor is an A4 from what I see theyre mostly A1. Will I have any problems with the swap (mainly ECU problems) or will I be ok. Im getting the motor for $625 and Im getting it installed for $475 Theyre transfering my new belts and wp over to the new one while theyre at it too.

F23A1 is 150 hp at the crank, F23A4 is 135. They are not JDM motors and you can find them for less than $500.

And yes, you'll need the ECU for the F23A1 and it has to be an auto ECU if you have an auto tranny.

I have never seen a JDM motor that used a number as the last character, for example:
H22a1=USDM
H22a=JDM
F22b1=USDM
F22B=JDM

etc etc etc

No. There is an H22 red top and black top. Those can be swapped in, but are more expensive. Those are pulled from 1997-2001 Preludes (non Type-SH preludes are easier swaps) and can be imported from JDM land (Japan)

The F23A1 was the standard motor in the 98-02 Accords. Valve cover was just silver. Mine is black, but far from JDM.

Try a junkyard or car-part.com

how many miles do these engines usually have? I know theyre F23A dont know about the last number. I have a buddy on acura-legend.com that is also on acurazine and he bought a "jdm" f23 for his CL and he said it is an A1. He's the one that told me the jdm's have a black valve cover. What do you think about teh few taht are on ebay? 2 of tehm are local for me in socal, I can grab either or. There,s 1 like mine silver with the green letters and one with the black valve cover. It'll save me on shipping. Again, thanks for the super quick responses and help. Please keep it coming (didnt sound right)

As far as i know,the only jdm f series is the F22B,(92-96 prelude si)

And the guy at the junkyard said it had less than 150K,most places do not have an exact mileage,
