So there are no JDM motors? how do we explain the one with the black valve cover? Is there anything I should check on the used engine that would be faulty later on down the road?

No there are, but the one you are looking for is not JDM. JDM motors come from cars only sold in Japan, meaning those engines need to be imported from Japan.

Like I said, my valve cover is black, but no where near JDM. I powder coated it, which is a popular thing to do. JDM H22a had black top and red top variants, one making more power than the other. As far as I know those and the F20C (S2000 motor) are the only ones that come powdercoated from the factory.

On a used engine, I'd try to do a compression check on the cylinders and at least get a somewhat accurate mileage.

JP98, I noticed youre from California. Youve got a whole lot of extra rules (EPA) that most of the rest of us dont. For example what kind of engines you can swap in & what procedures to get them certified. Ive never lived out there, so Ionly know a little bit about it.

LOL, that's true. I found out that I now have a connection in NJ, but I think that I can pass with the setup that I'm building. AFAIK, all I need is a cat and a recirc dump.

Cali FTL, might have nice weather but car inspections are ridiculous.

i have a powdercoated black valve cover on the car in my sig, and it was definately like that from the factory. I bought it from some old people who had owned it from day 1, and they kept track of all repairs and such, always had it serviced at the dealership etc. No engine/head/valve cover swaps on the car.
