Phantom, are you trying to give our OP a heart attack? Have you followed what he has gone through with this car since the beginning? It's been an adventure that rivals that of Frodo's quest to destroy the One Ring, and cgeromi has almost everything properly sorted finally. Lets give the guy a break before we ask him to take the next journey to engine swap perdition.

I agree, the H22 would be a more powerful engine (B16 is a more complicated swap), but as I said earlier in this thread, a lot of swaps that aren't direct replacements end up half-finished, with the car being sold for parts. For everyone I know that did a swap, I know 2-3 others who gave up.

Now... Shoehorning a J30 V6 into that engine bay... THAT would be a feat.

Derek, thanks for the kind words! The engine replacement was quite a learning experience, especially coming fresh outta the gates from VW right into the world of Hondas. Just yesterday I put the last component on the car (a new driver tie rod - outter) and got her aligned. SHe feels awesome going down the road. I now have put over 4000K miles on the car. Fixed and/or replaced everything wrong with her, including all the interior stuff. Now I'm riding clean at 184,000 miles and no CEL. Feels good. I love my little Honda. She's not gorgeous but she does the job and is comfortable. Now I just have to fix my ABS issue which I've been slacking on. But, I'm moving to NJ this Saturday and once I am settled in I can look into it. Also Derek, I see you're in NJ. What part? I'm near Edison. If you know anything about Honda ABS issues let me know.

And for the record I have to say, and some VW friends of mine will cringe, but VW's are just not built as strong and durable as Honda's. At least the older ones from my experience thus far. My 1998 GTI VR6 has 208K and the motor and tranny are champs but the car has nickel and dimed me to no end. Every 3 months or so, something would break. Wether is be a coolant part a leaky oil seal or bad tire wear due to a worn suspension part. Even the plastic Honda uses for there steering wheel clam shell is made better and more durable than my VW. The VW plastic is junk. Cracks and then your screwed.

As far as putting a different motor in, other than the f22b1, that will probably never happen. HOWEVER, I am VERY interested in converting my car to 5 speed. I want to do it smart and not spend an arm and a leg. Anyone know what it would be, roughly, to do my auto to manual swap? Taking in mind I will be getting a used manual.

For the swap....some have found it better to find a junk car and pick and pull parts off it, then sell what is left.

Pedals, trans, slave, master, lines, shifter, cables for shifter.

New stuff-clutch, flywheel and rear main seal (unless you did that with the engine swap?)

Then I think there is a "stub shaft" and one cv shaft....ECU - unless you want to "hack" the auto ECU, different than the TCU. A few wires need to be run/changed. I think one of the mount brackets needs to be modified and a new or used mount.

Anyway, the point being - having a whole car there with everything you need, you can take your time and pick and pull what you need.

Have you tried any "bone yards" for the center cap? While there you might find a 94-95 manual EX with what you need . Also you might call some "car rim" shops and see if they have any center caps.....in a past life I actually sold parts for a living and found that when a customer needed a rim, center cap that local "rim/wheel" stores often keep the OE stuff they take off customers cars and then re-sell the old stuff, just an idea?

Saying hello from New Jersey (The Garden State). Not sure why its the garden state, it's more like the people can't drive and industry everywhere state. Honda is running strong in Jersey traffic. Did a 4th transmission flush on Sunday of last week and the transmission is now 100%. Rolled over to 184,000 and all seems well.

I did have 1 weird thing happen yesterday however. I started the car, and it idled fine. Then all of the sudden it started revving up and down, up and down. Then after a 45 seconds it idled normal and never did it again and didn't do it today. Could this be that coolant temp sensor you mentioned a while back which you suggested may be causing my cold start issue at random times.

Also, to end on a positive note, the blue smoke that I saw weeks and weeks ago has never reared her ugly head again. I am thinking it may have been a clogged PCV which I have since cleaned.

Hope all is well poorman. March is here and the warm weather will be approaching soon! But, there watching a big snow storm here where I am live....

I'll keep you posted.

Check the coolant level....air in the system can cause the idle to go up and down like that. If that checks out, might wait and see if it happens again. If so the FITV would be on the list for a good cleaning, there are some that will also adjust it but for now just check the coolant level.

Good to hear the trans is doing better. Now that you have a good base line, just me but I'd do one drain and fill every 15K~20K...again that is just me being OCD.

Hope the job hunt in the new place goes well for you.

Stay warm and safe. Yes, 15 days until the official start of Spring . We might get snow tonight, not going to stick to anything but just the idea makes me cold.

Ok so i just found this thread today and i got three things to say:

1) I just finished reading all 21 pages of this thread and this has got to be one of the longest threads ive ever seen here!

2) To my friend poorman, You have helped me with many issues and opinions in the past but it wasnt till i read this thread that i realized how alike you and i are (feelings about cold weather, ocd, etc..)( Also nice house by the way, looks awesome there where you are)

And 3) To cgeromi, the fitv is located under the TB where the intake comes in, also congrats on the car and the journey!

Thanks for the B Day wish - I'm thinking of taking a long weekend for my B day,,,,can't decide if it is the weekend before or after. I'm thinking the Friday after...at least I can watch B-ball all day? Just wish the boy could be with me.

Anyway, as "firefighter" said, the FITV is the thing at the bottom of the inlet of the TB - 6 o'clock
