Default Just bought an Accord, need help.

Hello all,

I just bought a 1992 Accord LX coupe with 95,000 miles on it from the original owner. Inside and out are excellent.

Here are the issues:

--Trans light D4 blinks and the car will stutter sometimes. I couldnt get the trans light to come on though when i bought it.

--Needs a battery and a tune up because the valve cover gasket leaks and the plugs are a bit oily from this.

The owner said sometimes in idle in park the engine will rev up and down a bit. TPS?

Any help is appreciated. Its a very nice car and I am considering replacing my SAAB with it.

the "d4" light means the tcu has detected a prob. with the trans. You can check the codes...by popping off the pass. side kick panel then you will see a BLUE 2pole connector jump it off with paper clip turn the key to ON but don’t start the engine. You will see the "d4" light blink your trouble codes.
long blinks = x10
short blinks = x1
so if blinks 2long times then 1short time your code is 21.

read this to find your TCU trouble code meaning...

Rev up and down, check the coolant level and be sure it is full and no air trapped. Then go for a good TB cleaning. Next look into the IACV and fast idle for cleaning/adjustment and last replacement.

Are the "stutter" and D4 light related. Asking to be sure these are one and the same issue and not two different issues...."stutter" from the engine (with no D4 light and at normal op temp) around 1,800 rpms can be something else.
