Default are k&n air filters good?

I have a 05 accord lx and plan to change the air filter. I've searched this site and google and found no definitive answer about K&N air filters. Some say they add performance but others say it's a hassle to maintain because the efficiency decreases dramatically after a few thousands miles. Some also say the oil that comes with these filters actually make it worse. Any thoughts from the experts? Thanks in advance!!

also, any thoughts on FRAM cabin air filters?

I've used K&N filters on a few different cars & haven't had a problem. But any performance increase is probably imaginary. OK by me, since my motivation was being able to clean & reuse them.

I think your car might have a MAF sensor in the airfilter housing. If so, you have to be careful not to over-oil the K&N because you don't want to get oil blown onto the sensor.

Thanks Jim!
Did you notice decrease in power after a few thousand miles? What do you think of FRAM cabin filters?

Never noticed a decrease during use, but I'm not in a really dusty area. The filters never packed up with dirt.

Never used a Fram cabin filter.

I have FRAM cabin filters and they're just like any other filter. Nothing special, they were just the cheapest ones in stock

Thx everyone.
I decided it to stay with OEM air filters cuz of the filtration issue with K&N's. I also bought the FRAM fresh breeze cabin filter. I'll update with results once i get some miles on them.

btw, this guy's test helped me a lot:

perhaps it may help others.
