Low beams won't work

Default Low beams won't work

97 accord, 4cyl, auto
My low beams stopped working. The parking lights and high beams work. I checked the two 20amp fuses in the box under the hood and they were ok. Ideas?

My first guess is the headlight switch or a frozen headlight relay.

With the headlights switched on, open up the fuse box in the engine bay and track down the headlight relays. Give them a good tap with the butt of a screwdriver and see if the lights turn on (relays are mechanical devices, they can break or seize). I don't know how you could test the headlight switch.

I agree with Finch with the problem being the switch or the relay.

The shop manual will help (get a 94 manual from online manuals thread in DIY section).

The headlight relay (in fuse box under the hood) will have 4 pins when you unplug it.

ERROR: Two of the pins should have 12V to body ground when the key is in the II/on position. Pins 3 and 4 will have no power. Either 3 or 4 pin should be grounded (~zero ohms to ground) when you turn on the headlight, and open (infinite ohms) when the headlight switch is off.

To test the switch you'll unplug it & measure continuity thru each circuit at each of the switch positions. So you'll need a wiring drawing to know which wires are SUPPOSED to have continuity...

Almost easier to just head over to http://www.tasauto.com and order a new Honda Genuine switch for $40, once you verify the switch is the problem of course.

Another set of questions about your replys.
PA honda I do get 12 volt from the two pin recepticles. I get infinite from receptical 3&4 regardless of switch position. Does that mean it is the switch. How do you test the relay. Also reading the manual they talk of a 20 pin connector. It is not on the back of the headlight switch or where it plugs into the wiring harness under the dash. Is there a way to test continuity across the switch when it is out of the car?

The switch is likely, but test the switch first.

The connector is a 20-pin connector that is behind the kick panel and towards the driver's door. Remove the lower plastic and unbolt the kick panel.

The shop manual doesn't have a good picture of the location. There are two 20-pin plugs right next to each other. One is a blue connector and a green connector, but I can't remember which one is for the headlight switch.

Looking at the plug that leads to the switch, the numbering is:

1234xx56789
10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20

Only 5-9 and 17, 18, and 20 have wires going to it.
