lucas oil stabilizer?
Hello All,
I have a 97 Accord with 172000 miles on it. I add a quart of oil about every 1000 miles or so.
Was considering using Lucas oil stabilizer, which claims to reduce wear, slow leaks, improve mpg........etc.
Has anyone got any ideas or ever used this additive before?
Thanks!

I used it, but didn't see a noticeable improvement. A lot of those types of products are designed to just mask the problem for a little while, and not actually solve it. And some probably do more harm than good. 1 quart every 1000 miles isn't terrible, I'd just keep adding oil wwhen necessary. Possibly try different manufactures of oil and see if one burns less than another. I know royal purple burns faster than anything.

I would also look around the engine block for source(s) of leaking oil. It may be a slow leak, but you may be able to find something that is causing the oil leak other than the engine burning some oil. Check the PCV valve as well.

lucas oil stabilizer works great but not to fix leaks. It works wonders on healthy engine. The lucas will stop dry starts. where all the reg. oil will drain to the oil pan. the Lucas will stay in the cyl walls so you don’t have dry (metal on metal) starts. As for stopping a leak it CAN work since this stuff is think as honey but for 10bucks a qt. I would just use reg. oil until you fix your leak. I use this stuff on EVERY oil change. My dad even uses it on his Jon Deer 85hp tractor and he loves this stuff. It’s worth using but not what you need it for
