Mixing engine oils
1994 Honda accord EX-manual transmission with 189K miles
Bought the car couple months ago with no service records. I do not know which Engine oil was used in the car. After a 300 mile trip over the last weekend, I noticed that the engine oil level was a bit low. Hence, my friend topped it up with 10W-50 oil. After that, I read somewhere under the hood that the recommended oil is 5W-30. Assuming that I had 5W-30 oil already in the engine, will this mixing of two different kinds of oils cause any problems to the engine? Do I have to get an oil change urgently?
Thanks

RE: Mixing engine oils
mixing oil won't hurt the engine, when it's time to change the oil use 5w-30 and make sure to use a honda filter or at least a good quality one, if you just bought the car you probally should change the oil in the near future unless you know when it was changed. being 1/2 quart low usually takes about 2000-3000 miles on my honda and it has 374,000 miles on it
