Default My accord squeaks

My dad purchased a used 1999 honda accord and it has one very annoying problem.

Whenever the engine starts up, it makes a really loud "Squeak" sound. It also produces that same noise when we turn on the air conditioning. It continues the noise for about 1-2 minutes, and then it goes away for the rest of the day, but starts again the next day.

What seems to be the problem?

It sounds likeyour alternator & ACbelts areslipping With age they get hard & slippery. You could overtighten them so they don't slip, but then you'll be asking us how to replace thebearings in your alternator.

My friend thought it could have been the alternator too, I guess he was right. Thanks for the info.....and now that you mention it....how do you replace the bearings on the alternator?

You probably need to remove it and take it to a place that rebuilds alternators. I think that those bearings are pressed in there.

I would try a new belt before going to all the trouble and expense of rebuilding the Alt.

I was kidding about the bearings...

It was a wisecrack meaning Don't overtighten the old belt - buy a new belt so you DON'T destroy the bearings.
