RE: My engine Light
There should be a blue connector under the glove box, well 2 to be exact, you want the one with 2 wires going to it not 3. Take a paper clip, or piece of wire, or any metal object really and put one end in each pin so that it completes the circuit.
Then watch the check engine light, it will flash a code in a series of long and short flashes. A long flash stands for ten and a short flash stands for one. count the code and then come back here with it and we will be able to tell you why the light is on.
Or you can just take it to autozone or advanced auto or a store like this and they can read it for free. But I personally prefer the do it yourself approach.

RE: My engine Light
The source of the check engine light can be caused by a lot of different things. The 97 has two ways to get the codes.
1. Follow the instructions on this site as live2rice said. http://www.dhost.info/accordinfo/howto/cel.html This way does not take too long and will give you the fault code.
2. Your car has an OBDII connector behind the ashtray (just pull out the ashtray). Stop by an autozone and have them read the codes with their reader. The codes are P####.
Post the codes on here (using either method) and we can give you a much more details on what is wrong.
