my shop teacher once bought a car from his friend for like $100 or something like that. ran fine. He took it into the shop class and pressure tested it. once he got to full pressure the rad burst and fluid started spraying everywhere, it busted a bunch of holes in the rad. Lesson for anyone thinking of doing a pressure test: dont do it if nothings broken. this is NOT aimed at axlrose. you should do a pressure test.
Either the test was performed toway over the design pressure (about 13 - 15 psi ish), or the cap wasn't sealing the pressure properly in normal use (so rad wasn't seeing normal pressure)and when you tested the pressure to correct psi the rad blew because it was weak.

was was weak. what do you expect, it was a $100 car. After he blew the rad he had to spend $150 on a new rad. with a new car, yea its ok. But if you have a junker, a pressure test shouldnt be on your list of things to do unless theres a problem with the cooling system.

Would you rather have the radiator blow up during a cold pressure-test in your garage, or rather have it blow up hot on the interstate 200 miles from home??

Exactly. What if he'd fitted a new cap and then had the rad burst on the road, or it may well have blown sometime soon even with the old cap. Don't blame the pressuretest for the rad failure, the test worked perfectly, it found a potentially disastrous weak point.

ok, i picked up a rad from the wreckers. it came out of an auto tranny accord. so do i need to plug something to prevent some sort of leak where the auto tranny is supposed to hook in? might be a stupid question but i have no idea.
i printed off the directions for rad replacement on this forum and it mentioned there was an added step for auto trannys, so i wasn't sure if i had to do something extra if that line isn't being used.

Typically an auto will pump ATF through a pipe in the lower rad tank to cool the ATF. This isn't an issue for you fitting a rad from an automatic car into a manual, but, you might want to blow th ATF pipe out with compressed air to remove any ATF still in the cooling pipe, just avoid it leaking onto your car.

ATF is reddish in colour. Don't know what the "sluggy yellow stuff" might be (?).

x2^ atf is pinkish red, sometimes very brown with a hint of red, if the last owner didnt take care of their trans. you sure the "sluggy yellow stuff" isnt just anti-freeze?
