Mystery Wobble? And Other Noises.
Hi I am new to the sight and I am in need of some input about a wobble I have been having in my tire (in or around front suspention area) I'm not sure exactly where the problem lies and I will try to keep this as short as possible. I drive a '98 Honda Accord EX 4 cyl. When I'm driving 15-20 mph I can barely feel anything, slight wobble but nothing serious. But when I get on the highway and start going 50-60 mph I get this DEATH wobble in my steering wheel, I can feel it in the gas petal, it feels like something is grinding on something? and seems to get worse every time i even drive on a crack or hole. Here's the weird thing though, when I drive 75-80 mph the wobble almost completly goes away?
I had the tire shop see if the tire was unbalanced, nothing there, all the weights were on. The mechanic at the shop down the street put it up on a hoist and checked ball joints tie rods and allignment, nothing there. Honeslty, I don't really have the money right now to expiriment with changing a whole lot of things and I am fresh out of ideas to what this could be, I guess I just want to make sure I know what it is before I fix it and since no one can seem to figure out what is wrong with it, then I cannot fix it? Any input would be appreciated, I am really scared that this could be something serious.

W/o $, maybe get an older mechanically oriented driver to go with you to 60 mph and see what he says...

Your problem may not be suspension but faulty CV axles. I had a serious vibration under acceleration on my 94EX that began about 15-25 mph. It was worse when attempting to accelerate at 50-60 mph. After replacing rear motor mount and axles twice w/ Autozone axles, I decided to try a premium axle (raxles) w/ the balancer ring on the axle. Left axle replacement cured most of the problem and RH axle replacement fixed the problem permanently.

It still might be tires. Find a shop with a Hunter GSP9700 balancing machine. That one presses the tire against a roller while it balances it. It should pick up things like belts inside the tire separating.

Thank you for the feedback. Is there a way to check if the CV axles are damaged? I will try having a different mechanic look at it and test drive, also make sure I am there when he drives it. Also, will find a shop with a *Hunter GSP9700 balancing machine* to see if they find anything there. Will be back in a few days with results

I was never able to definitively tell the AZ axles were bad. They had a small amount of looseness, but I never thought they were "bad". They did not have the harmonic balancer rings, which I think may be the big difference.
