Need help diagnosing Fuel Gauge/Sending Unit
Myfuel gaugeseems to record the correct level when it is between full and half tank, however, when the level goes below half tank, the gauge will intermittently drop down to Empty.
I pulled the fuel gauge/sending unit from the tank to look for any obvious problems. Is there a way to check it with an Ohmmeter while it is removed from the tank, or must you check it with it connected?

Thanks Sir Nasty. Did you find those attachments on this forum? I did make an effort to look for these before I post, I really don't like wasting your time. Thanks again.

RE: Need help diagnosing Fuel Gauge/Sending Unit
On other vehicles, fuel deposits on the variable resistance wiper have been blamed for this problem, and fixed w/ use of fuel system cleaner (Chevron Techron in particular). I had this problem on my Subaru and put off replacing the sender unit due to difficult access and problem went away. It may pay to try some fuel system cleaner and wait a while before replacing.
If you replace, go w/ OEM for this part.
good luck

Thanks to all for your advice and suggestions. I found the ohmmeter readings were not within specification. I plan on ordering a new sending unit from Bernardiparts.com for $87.38.
