It all depends on wat you want ur car to do...
I say timing belts, i think it is very hard to do on ur own and also expensive, but important.
With my car, i started off with an oil change, i think my gas caps were replaced, and then sound.
And just today my spark plugs were replaced and SRI installed.
Next for me is brakes and timing belt.
Its all a matter of choice, and sometimes budget.

T-belt is pretty complicated. I personally would not do that myself. There is a write up on it in the DIY section. Go there and check it out for yourself. Whip out the Yellow Pages & call a few Honda-certified shops and get a price quote. You might as well have the water pump, balance belts, & oil seals changed while they are changing the timing belt too. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the service will cost you anywhere from $400 to $800.
The timing belt is one of the most crucial parts of your engine. On your model, it is supposed to be changed every 90,000 miles. If it breaks, the engine is toast. I would start there before investing in any mods.

^^I don't want to agree but I have to... do you know if the previous owner had it regularly serviced at one particular shop? If so then call them and ask if you can get a copy of the service records, if you can then you'll know if you need to fix it or not but putting a bunch of money into a car and making it nice just to have the engine blow because of a lack of maintence would not be fun...
I had a 94 civic with a Grade A VIS carbon fiber hood, aftermarket bumper, fenders, headlights and mirrors to install, strut tower bars, AEM V2 Intake and H&R Cup kit suspension, then the motor hydrolocked with some snow and blew the rings... sucked down a quart every 2-3 days.... basically, speaking from experience make the car run well before you invest your money...
