Default New here and to Honda's - need some help

I just picked up a 1980 Accord for my son. Car is in great condition for it's age - only has 84k miles on it. Everything works, including the AC blowing cold.
It does have a problem... It struggles to start and then runs horrible at idle. Going down the road is fine, but when I let off the gas to stop, it starts idling horrible and smokes. The smoke is greyish but smells like it's running very rich. I put new plugs, wires, and coil on it. I pulled the top of the carb off and the floats are good - not sure if they are set right, but they are in good condition. I've checked for vacuum leaks and can't find anything.
Any ideas of what I need to check? I'm not sure where to turn now. Trying to get the car running good for my son to have.

Could be words....to me. Grey/blueish smoke = oil. White = coolant. Black = running rich.

Check the PCV, compression test, leak down test. Keep an eye on the oil level.
