Newbee - Suggestion requested!
Hello Party People,
Looking for some suggestions...
Currently I drive a '96 Accord V6, 133K miles on it. I've had it from the beginning and the past 3 years I've put about 65,000 of those miles on it. The car mainly goes on the freeway andI've been satisified with it.Most everything has been replaced except the engine/tranmission.
Recently the car has been running a little slow and the thought of getting a new car came up. I checked the local dealers and I was quoted $17k for the Civic LX, $22k for the Civic Hybrid and and $24k for the Accord V6.
I drive about70miles round trip eachday... stick with the '96 and go witha new Honda?

RE: Newbee - Suggestion requested!
I might take your offer on that..
I was plannin on spending about $23-25k on a new commuter car, but obviously the less the better. I just got back from my mechanic and he replaced the igniter and fuel relay switch, but that damn check engine light wouldn't go away. My last bet was to take it to the dealer and have them do their diag test for $90 to get rid of that light, but I dropped by an autozone and they took care of it for free. It turns out the oxygen sensor needs to be replaced as well. Any idea how much that runs these days?

im not as experienced as others on here, but someone might chime in with the info...
i would search the forums for 5th generation v6 oxygen sensor...and other terms...its probably buried in ehre somewhere...
if that doesnt work, change the name of the thread, or post a new thread with your problem evident...this title may not generate the correct traffic.

Google honda service bulletin 98-081. Honda had a recall. They should replace your O2 sensor at a dealership for free as long as your car has under 150k and is not 14 years old yet. Looks like you should be able to do this! Let us know how it goes because my O2 sensor is throwing the code too and I haven't gotten around to it yet. DO NOT PAY THE DEALER ANYTHING! Print off a copy of the service bulletin 98-081 and show it to them. If they say you are going to have to pay for something tell them "no" and that you are going to contactAmerican Honda and ask if you should have to pay. According to the bulletin, they have 45 days to resolve the claim once it is reported to them.
