noise after brake job

noise after brake job
07 Accord EX 4cyl
Changed pads and rotors recently and within 100 miles started hearing a popping sound during braking. The speed of repetition is tied to vehicle speed and the intensity of the pop varies with how hard the pedal is pressed.
Not a great recording, but you can hear it from inside the car at - Chirbit - 07 Accord brake noise - canooten - share audio easily
Seems to be coming from the back as far as I can tell.
Took the wheels off last night to verify that the rotors were flush against the hubs and noticed that there seems to be a good bit of play between the pad tabs and the bracket. Enough to move them laterally by hand inside the caliper (without ebrake of course). I know that 3rd party pads don't always fit snug so a little play might be acceptable, but could this play be what's causing the noise? Pads shifting around in the bracket during stop?

Yes, the pads shifting around in the bracket can make strange sounds.
Now I can't tell you if the play in yours is the source as I can't see it or feel it.
Many parts stores sell pads that come with new hardware. If you think the play is more than it should be, see if you can "warranty" the pads you got - get your money back - and get another set of pads that come with the hardware or purchase the hardware.
