To me, the silence I hear, from my 03 V6 with normal driving, is golden, and gives me the feeling of a smooth operating engine. I can hear the engine, and not the intake noise. I already have to change the oil in my engine, and changing the oil in one of those filters when it gets dirty, doesn't sound like fun. I would rather buy another regular filter, and slap it in there. I don't think the stock intake is all that restrictive in the first place. Seems to me the piping is plenty large enough to give the engine all the air it needs.

Just my opinion.
06V6 didn't get a CAI, he just got himself a drop in filter. No change in sound, just increased air flow.

Actually a SRI will make more of noise than a CAI. PPl tend to buy CAI for the extra top end when gettin a tune.
Let me break it down and explain what I mean.

A stock air box is just fine yes it can be restrictive b/c the pipe is not smooth. SO that creates turbulence that robs you of your efficient steady air flow. It's never contestant b/c the air is bouncing around the inside of the intake tube. That also lowers the noise of the engine and that what most ppl want when buying a car.

Now the ppl who buy short ram for 2 reasons.
1. they can't install a true CAI on their car (yes we do have some honda modles that can't accept a CAI)
2. scared of hydolocking.

Now the hydrolocking as been solved with a simple AEM bypass valve.

Your CAI will give you a steady flow of air with little to no turbulence. Reaching the intake manifold faster for better power output. An also along with the colder air being sucked up from your fender well.
With all the engines I have built I prefer going with a CAI.
Short rams just suck. heat soaking and helps drop your tq. a bit and doesn’t return much in the high end after robbing you of low end. Heat soaking might not be a issue to a stock car. But when getting tuning and racing on hot streets the short ram hurts you more than helps you. If you get a crazy amount of air down low and mid range but up top is suffers.
With a CAI you get a steady velocity of air from start to finish. With the pipe being longer more room for the air to build up for high end.

When I had my short ram on my stock-ish f22a it would struggle to rev out to 6k (even know f22a stop making power a 5800) After going with CAI I got my low end back along with the engine not struggling to rev out to 6k.
If your going for a street car that you wanna mess around with go with the CAI with AEM bypass.
Now I can't remember what civic/teggy forum it was but my buddy pointed out a nice dyno testing thread on intakes. They tested modded stocker air boxes short rams and CAI. Guess who came out on top? Injen CAI. This test was done on the k20 engine.

I knew I had the link around somewhere I just couldn’t find it when we all got into this discussion. But I stumbled across it while going through my posted earlier this morning. I thought it would be a good read for everyone since we got big into this filter talk.
