RE: O2 Sensor basic
Jim, here's one I found on eBay $34 delivered. Comes from China like most everything else cheap these days. Decent reviews. I bought one and I'll let ya know what happens...

RE: O2 Sensor basic
Several years back I decided I wanted an OBD2 scanner/logger to work w/ a laptop. I purchased a used IBP laptop (~$100) and Harrison Engineering OBDScan hardware/software package (~$140). After some initial problems were resolved it's worked fine. Harrison is in Houston and came to my house to resolve the issues (firmware problem that required a new firmware chip in my adapter cable/module).
I've used the unit to track O2 sensor performance and it's fast enough to track voltage signal accurately.
I've also used on highway to compare performance (timing/mileage) w/ and w/o premium fuel in my 2.5TL which is suppposed to use premium. I could detect no difference and have used regular for several years now. This alone probably paid for the scanner.
Also it was very handy when I had P0420 on my 99 Subaru Forester. I confirmed the catalytic converte was in fact not performing as desired and after long term scanning decided to repalce the converter w/ Eastern Catalytic Converter. Problem has not returned.
It's a piece of equipment I wouldn't be w/o anymore.
See following link for info: Price is reasonable for a unit that is garunteed to read all protocols. This may not be same functional package I purchased, and hardware/software upgrades have occurred. I've stuck w/ my hardware/software since it works perfectly fine on myfive, Obd2 vehicles.
