occasional odd idle
Ok, so here is my problem, I have noticed the sometimes (not every time) I start my car the idle will stay at about 1500 and run a little rough instead of kicking down to about 8/900. It just started doing this and I don't know why. I have few idea's as to what it could be, but I wanted to see if any of ya'll have experienced this before and if it's an issue I should fix before next Monday. For I will be driving back up to Nashville TN from Houston TX. (About 14 hours of driving)
And if you can't read my sign. I have a 2007 4cyl 2.4L AT...
Thanks!!

Does the check engine light turn on while driving? I would still stop by a parts store and have the codes read.
When the engine is cold, remove the radiator cap and see if the radiator is filled with coolant.
How many miles are on the car? Are you up to date on the maintenance items?

Fill it up to the top. Then occasionally check to see if it is filled.
If the level drops, then you will have to determine if there is a leak somewhere or if the radiator cap isn't working properly.
The cap should let out coolant when the coolant expands when the engine heats up, then pull in coolant when the engine cools down and the coolant volume contracts.
You can rent a coolant pressure tester to see if the radiator will hold around 15 psi. There is an attachment in some of those kits for the radiator cap to see if it will hold pressure too.

Hondas do not like to have any air inside the cooling system. One result of that is a surging idle...
If the outside reservoir is OK but the level in the radiator keeps falling, then I'd look for a bad radiator cap or a bad hose leading over to the reservoir.

Yeah its gotta be something with the a hose. Cause I was driving the other day to the airport and in not even two seconds my car was WAY to hot. I put a good amount of coolant in and it drank it like no other. There's gotta be a bad hose somewhere...
Thanks for the advice guys!

Are you finding any coolant on the ground after you have been parked a while ? I saw that my 1993 LX had a leak today...turned out that it was the water inlet hose for the heater core. It was hard to find the leak because it was hidden from view by the distributor. An easy fix and only cost $13 for the factory Honda hose....
