Default odd noise

Hi guys,

I've got a strange one. In the morning when I back the wifes 2000 Accord SE down my driveway (steep) I get a whirring sound from under the car. This only happens first thing in the morning and only when I'm backing down the driveway. The rest of the time the car sounds normal. I've had all the fluids changed recently and just checked the power steering rack to make sure it was okay. Anybody got any idea what this intermittent noise might be?

Thanks in advance

The abs system may be recharging the accumulator (assuming it has one). On earlier Accords, the pump may come on at first startup of the day to recharge the accumulator which may lose enough hydraulic pressure overnight to require recharge. Pressure switch closes due to low pressure in accumulator causing the pump to come on for 5-10 secs and recharge the accumulator.

good luck

Question

Thanks for the input guys. Yup it's an automatic, but I don't think that's the noise. Does a 2000 have an abs accumulator?

I've started leaning towards the AC pump since I had a very similar sound in a Ford Contour that I owned years ago which did it just about everytime you started it up after it sat for awhile.

Like I said thanks again and I'll keep you posted if I ever figure out exactly what it is.

In 2000 the ABS system doesn't have an accumulator that pumps up. That system was dropped at least by 1998.
