Oil is black after only 2000 miles. What to do?

I assume you are talking about an oil filter wrench? Not if you can unscrew it by hand (sometimes it can be pretty tough to do by hand.) Never tighten it with a wrench though - only hand tighten.

Filter is on the back side of the engine block, so it's a question of being in an awkward position & possibly being on too tight to remove by hand. No big deal.

Yeah I often get oil all over my arm and hand. It was so much easier on the 95 V6. You could turn the tire and reach the oil filter form the passenger side without even crawling under the car. Plus the filter was vertical so there was not much mess. Only reason I had to jack up the car was to fit the catch pan underneath.

I tried a can of the oil system cleaner on my old Maxima to help the VTC chattering. As others mention above, this can dislodge a chunk of badness from where it was harmless to block an important passageway. My engine seized 10 miles after I ran it through the engine. Leave it alone and change your oil more frequently. Don"t skimp on the oil filter.
