2 questions.

1. Anybody know how many quarts of oil goes in a 1997 Honda Accord LX V6?

2. The engine has been ticking in my car like crazy, whenever i turn it on it ticks. sounds like the pistons or valves. I was leaving work today and i turned on the car to find my oil light blinking. I checked the dipstick when i got home and found that it was COMPLETELY DRY. Ipoured 3 quarts of oil in it so far.....and the ticking stopped.It seems ive been losing oil at a rapid rate and i dont wanna keep filling it. I think it might be a leak or a bad oil pump, im not sure....HELP PLEASE

 

1. check your manual (this is for 00accordlx5spd [sm=icon_rtfm.gif])

2. are you pumping out blue smoke? puddling? oil in spark plugs? you're gonna have to provide more info for any worthwhile help...

 

1.OBVIOUSLY i dont HAVE my manual. if i DID, i wouldnt bePOSTING this QUESTION on the FORUM.

2. There is no blue smoke, no oil in spark plugs. i havent seen a puddle anywhere but whenever i go somewhere to get my oil changed, it always says im low on oil. (missing a quart) or something.

 

1. i meant no harm. many people will ask a question on here before consulting even the most rudimentry sources. call your local parts desk and ask how much you needto buy to change oil in the car.

2. any oil in the radiator?

 

Can you put a piece of cardboard or something in your normal parking spot so you can see if the car is leaking when it is parked?
When was the last time you had the timing belt & oil seals changed?

 

oil + filter replacement capacity is 4.6 qts ...

if there are no leaks engine is using ( burning ) oil ,, possible valve seals, piston rings ..
chk for any oil leaks first

 

hey yea, thats a good idea. no oil in the radiator. i dont know when that stuff was changed last because i bought the car the way it is now.
