Default Oil light on at idle. 97 accord SE

3 weeks ago I had a major oil leak and the oil light was solid under 2000 rpm and it was the oil pressure switch that was broken and leaking through it. I replaced it and havnt had any oil leaks or issues until today. Now the light flickers around 800 rpm and stays solid at anything under. I checked to see if the new pressure switch had the same problem but nothing is leaking.

I have just over 200k miles so I'm thinking either the aftermarket switch is faulty, oil pump is wearing out, or the internal clearances are so much that it can't build sufficient pressure.

As a temporary sulution I'm considering using a higher weight oily car calls for 5w-30 so I might just have to move up to 10w.

The oil level is fine, correct?

Could be the switch, a 10W isn't going to solve the issue, that will only make the oil "thicker" when cold-once it warms up........the first number on oil spec's is when cold, the second is when it is at operating temp.

Oil level is fine. No leaking oil anywhere.

I guess the best thing to do would be to check the pressure with a gauge but I'd like to avoid that since Its a pain in the *** to get to and all I have is ramps.

It's the aftermarket oil pressure switch. I had the same problem with a replacement switch from Oreilly auto. Replaced it with Honda OEM and no problems since.

Well, i have my own hypothesis now. Unfortunately it would appear that not only is my heater core leaking, my head gasket has failed between an oil and coolant passage. since i fixed all the oil leaks i noticed the oil level rise and alot more than average goop on the dipstick and undeer the cap and the oil turned chocolate milk colored. so i would imagine the watered down oil could be the culprit for the low oil pressure. i fabricated a little pump for the dipstickk tube and i just pump out 2 quarts and replace it with fresh oil every week and i have not had a problem with the oil light since.
