overheating problem.
ok, so i was driving to work this morning and i pull into a gas station and i notice my car is overheating badly. i checked the coolant and it was a little low so i filled it. and go to drive again and it overheats again in just a few blocks. i pull over and noticed the fans were not coming on.
i was thinking it was the temp. sensor or the thermostat.
so my friends takes me to my house to get my tools and i notice a huge puddle of coolant in the driveway.
so not i don't know if it is the thermostat or water pump. i replace the thermostat because it was cheaper. and i think it was stuck because after replaceing the coolant was way low.
but car still seems to be overheating not as bad or as quickly. any other ideas before i change the water pump?

RE: overheating problem.
you need to diagnose where the leak is at, before you start replacing parts..
pressure test the system, chk rad cap ,make sure rad is full and system is properly bled,
Once you do all that, leak fixed, start the engine , make sure that lower rad hose gets hot, if it does t-stat is ok,, if cool, you got a bad t-stat,
once lower hose gets hot, let engine run, make sure that both fans come on ..
if only 1 comes on, you got a possible bad fuse, wiring or fan motor
if neither fan comes on .. unplug the green plug at t-stat housing, jump the 2 wires together at connector, if fans come on you got a bad switch .
let us know..
