Passive alarm system for Honda accord 2008
Hi, I just picked up my new 2008 accord. I believe it comes with some security system but I do not know the specifics. The dealership offer me a factory honda passive alarm securutiy system for 500 install. Do I need it? Can I get away with the default security system? Please help.
I have v6 EX-L.
thanks.

[sm=icon_rtfm.gif]The key is chipped andthat prevents the ignition switch from being "hot wired", the ECU won't let the engine start unless it "sees" the key.
But you know your neighborhood a lot better than we do, so if the only car on the block that hasn't been stolen is a 75 Ford pickup....get the extra security.
On the other hand if your exclusive gated community with 1/4 hour security patrols lets your neighbors leave their mercedes unlocked...don't worry about it.
2reasons for the added option, insurance might be a little cheaper, &resale value.

there is no honda factory 'passive alarm system'. the car comes ready to go. i'd stay away from aftermarket alarm systems, they are more trouble than worth. the honda security system is perfect.
the immoblilizer system is very nice too.a theif needs to be a honda technician to steal your car without the keys(needs a multithousand dollar scantool(hds), key code to cut a key, special access code that changes every hour based on your vin and ***** of steel). not to mention half the time sidewinder keys that are cut don't work right, heh.

i went back to get the alarm install. the manufacture by code alarm. i read through the manual briefly but it works in with my key transmitter. anyone know if it's anyy good? i also did not get any additional transmitter as this works with my oem transmitter. there's no valet button on my transmitter. does this mean i can't use that function?
