Default Popping out of 5th gear

depressed...

Just took the car for a mini vacation to Gatlinburg, TN after swapping in the 5 speed to replace the blown auto that I had.

It is about 160 miles away. I got there no problem.

On the way home the trans started popping out of 5th gear. I got out and checked the linkage and everything looked just fine.

I had the hold the shifter up in 5th gear in order to drive home.

What I found is that when i accelerate the shifter pulls back and wants to pop out of gear. When I let off the gas the shifter goes forward.

I checked all the motor mounts when I did the swap. I replaced the front motor mount as it was tore but the other 3 were in good shape.

I read somewhere (after searching) about the "shifter bushings" possibly being the problem.

I also know that there is an adjustment on the shifter cables.

Please what do you think I need to do?

My girlfriend needs to dive this car to work on Wend 60 miles.

What do I need to do?

Thank you for your help in advance.

I have an F - Series Transmission.

Shift Forks, are those located inside the transmission or are those the levers that the cables attach to?

I researched shifter bushings and I do not think that is the problem at all.

What bothers me a lot is I had over 600 miles on the car since the swap and everything worked perfectly.

Clearly the shifter is moving under acceleration or deceleration while in 5th gear. I tried it in 3rd gear and the shifter does not move around.

Do you think I have an external problem such as bad motor mount or bad cable routing?

Or do you think I have (a much worse) internal problem?

My other truck just blew its motor so the Honda is the one and only car we have to use.

I really need to fix this problem today.

I have been researching a ton and found quite a few mentions of this problem on a different board.

The #1 reason for popping out of 5th gear is low trans fluid.

I did fill the trans while the car was on jack stands and I think I have it too low.

I am going to check it right now and it would be great if that solves the problem.

I hope it is something simple, because you did a lot of work on the swap.

I don't know if you can look at the shift fork to see if the shift cable is pulling back on it to pop it out of gear.

PROBLEM SOLVED!

It was TOO low on fluid.

I think it was a combination of I did not fill it up all the way (due to the front being on jack stands) and the slow leak from the passenger side axle seal.

I only had a quart of oil here and it took the whole thing so i am going to go to the store and get more and top it off.

I sure hope I did not do any real damage to the transmission by running it low on oil.

I just came back from a short test run and it shifted great and made no type of noise at all.
