Default Is it possible...? (Timing Belt Question)

Just purchased a 2003 EX-L 3.0L V6 with 150,000 miles. I have no way of finding out if the timing belt has been changed or not (I'm assuming and very much hoping it has...) Is there anything that would serve as evidence or indicate that it has been changed at some point?

you can pull the valve cover on the closest head and look at the belt .. you will look for cracks of any sort of wear

There is a rubber plug one each of the upper t-belt covers which can be pulled out and you can look in at it, but you will see very little of it. Best way is to remove one of the upper covers and looks for cracking paying particular attention to the point where each tooth meets the flat portion of the belt as that is where the cracks will develop first.

Check the car fax and see if any service was done at a Honda dealer, call them with the VIN and ask them if they have a record of the TB service.
I called around to local Honda dealers and found the one that performed most of the services on my car. The service writer was able to chat for a few minutes about what services were done already.

Here's a good video but I did not find it very convincing:

You should have asked this question to seller. Doubtful you will get any help from a Honda service center.

In the end, a timing belt replacement is only way to be certain of engine protection.

good luck

Default When to replace

I finally got around to checking mine and here is what it looked like. These gates kits have really been working out for me. I got a tckwp244 today. Belts are so much easer and cheaper to change than heads and you still have to do the belts and waterpump when you pull the head if the timing belt breaks.

Really lucky. I had the belt kit since christmas, just didnt get to it. Son removed power steering belt to get to the alternator belt. I asked him if he wanted to check the timing belt knowing the car was trashed if the belt broke. Once we pulled off the top cover and saw the top of the belt the car did not move again till replaced. It was a honda belt, the only reason it stayed together. Again I am really lucky on this one.
