Default Power steering noise

I have a leak somewhere in my power steering, my mech said he couldn't id it so he felt the rack pinion is slowly leaking,i'm having to refill weekly. My question is: can I use a power steering stop leak product on my honda or will this continue to make the problem worse? I ask because Hondas use a specific power steering fluid, and if you put any other steering fluid in there you will damage the system.
If leak stopper would help, can u reccommend any specific one, and how much should i add in combination with power steering fluid? or should I add just pure leak stopper untill the reservour fills up?

thanks for any help.

Find out for sure where the leak is. If it's a hose, or one of the connections, that can be replaced or fixed. Stop leak would only last a short time, then you would be back to square one, with contaminated fluid.

Default Follow up question.

I know there is no leakage from hoses, its a very small leak in the pinion and so replacing it would run me over $400 and I'm not wanting to spend that sort of money right now, if i use leak stopper, it would help, thats for sure, my question is, will it damage other parts?

Anything that swells seals can do damage and for leak stop to work it would have to swell the seals.

Stop-leak works by swelling the seals. One common reason for leaking pinion shaft is the shaft itself corrodes so it's not smooth where the seal rides. Even if you DO add stop-leak to swell the seal, it won't work because the shaft isn't smooth.

if it is leaking from the rack most likely it is the seals at both end of the rack,, oil is accumulating inside the p/s rack boots ,, tell the mechanic to pull off the little hoses that goes into the p/s rack boots , if fluid comes out ,rack needs to be resealed or replaced

do not waste money on stop leak
