Default Question about changing engine oil

When you change the oil, do you need to jack up both side of the car or just the side where the oil pan is located. I have 1 floor jack and 2 jack stand in my garage right now. I'm going to buy the washer, oil filter (and oil filter wrench if necessary) and the engine oil next week. Do I need to buy anything else for extra safety when it's time to jack the car up. My car is a 2005 Honda Accord. Thanks!

jack it up so it doesnt inhibit the flow of all the oill out of the car. jack up both sides and make the job easy for 4 minutes work.

The front of the car has a center jacking point (flat rectangular spot) with an arrow pointing to it. This is where you place the floor jack to lift. I like to use a heavy duty floor jack rated for a higher capacity for safety.

Before jacking it up, place wheel chocks behind the rear tires. You can buy wheel chocks or use something like wood, bricks, whatever for help chock the rear wheels.

I use Rhino ramps, Welcome to RhinoRamps® available at WalMart for around $29.. I also installed a Fumoto drain valve. www.fumoto.com Makes life simple. I also purchased a filter wrench at WalMart that slides on the end of the filter.

I jack up the whole front from the center jack position and put jack stands under the side jacking places and remove the floor jack from the center.

Yeah, don't work under the car without the car safely support with jack stands.

I drive the front wheels just a bit up onto some ramps. I only need the car to be about 2 inches higher than normal in order to get under there. You could drive up onto a couple pieces of wood, like 2x6? MAKE SURE IT'S SAFE & SOLID.

Posting rules say no active links to selling sites, so I had to fix it. No problem mentioning the Fumoto valves, just type em that way for websites that sell stuff.

^No problem, I installed the valves on all 3 of my Honda's. They work great, no more oil mess, I drain directly into an empty 5 quart container.
