Default Radiator Fan Stopped Working

Hi i have a 97 honda accord and a few weeks ago everytime my radiator fan turned on it made a rattling noise. I thought the fan was loose but i checked and it wasn't. Over the few weeks the noise got louder and the rattling was worse. Now the fans dont spin at all and the car keeps over heating..please help!!

Fans have small oil-less bearings and supports that wear out allowing the armature to wobble and contact the magnetic field pieces. It will sometimes make a screeching noise and finally will quite.

Fix is simple. Replace the fan or fan assembly w/ a new part. Check ebay and online for parts.

good luck

check for play in the fan motor shaft itself, if you can grab a fan blade and move it around without any or little effort, that means the bearings are gone and its time for a new fan motor. Just as a secondary precaution check your fuses to make sure one isnt blown.

yeah, local salvage yard should have one pretty cheap if youre low on cash, and installation shouldn't be too bad, just follow the instructions in a haynes repair manual

No, you need a new fan motor. I would not buy a used unit as it may have same problem as yours. A replacement fan motor is inexpensive and easy to replace in the 94-97 Accords.

good luck
