Damnit ! :-) I like the option of picking it up locally and not having to wait but you kinda say the MOOG is your 2nd choice over the Timken. What to do ?

This is a different topic, sorta, but I keep seeing different manufacturers using the same part #. I mean, it's great for someone who is looking for options and doesn't need to look up cross-references - just search "512178" and see that they have the choice of Raybestos, Timken, Moog, etc, etc. I've seen it with brake pads as well. For my car, the numerical part is "465" (I think) but different prefixes or suffixes (in some cases).

I'm hoping to be able to replace both rear-wheel bearings even though the left-side one is okay at the moment. I input that code and it still works, but it looks like I'll want to buy each assembly separately. That way, I get $20 off of each one (or $40 total) vs just $20 total if I buy them together.

That's exactly what I do. More savings $$$

So much for the thinking of "you should replace both at the same time". There are at least a half-dozen Advance Auto Parts around here and NONE of them have (2) assemblies in stock. Will be going to two different stores to pick them up.

Picked up the first assembly at Advance this afternoon - it was in a "National" box, which I know is related to Moog/Federal Mogul in some way, so I didn't care that much. The box was a bit roughed up though... I opened it up before leaving and the part was sitting there on top of the wadded-up bag it had originally came in. Looking at it, it was clearly "used". I'm guessing someone installed it or tried to install it with no luck and returned it. Best part was the bearing 'cap' on the inside was very loose and with no effort, I was able to remove it exposing the ***** of the bearings. While I showed one guy, the other was locating another one for me, so I can't complain about them... Kinda disappointing that they put this part back on the shelf though !

I still had to go to store # 2 'cause each store only stocked (1) of these and then store # 3 to get a replacement for the first one. The replacements were Moog branded too.
