$200 including a valve job is a decent price. No way it takes 20 minutes as esobofh said. More like a couple hours and some patience. Get some long needle nose pliers to get the socket out.

 

How is it ripping you off?

Have you just stated that it is something that you aren't capable of doing without problems? Everything in life costs, somethings more than others. Yes the price seems high, but that is because the techs are doing something that not all owners are capable of doing. OEM parts carry a price premium because they work the way the factory designed the car to work. Put some bosch platinums in it and wait a couple weeks for the check engine light to come. Let someone who doesn't know what they are doing change the plugs and you might end with a loose plug that cakes the threads in the head full of carbon from exhaust gas blow by. Or maybe one of those $20 plugs will get broke during installation. Not everyone that works on cars is trying to rip off their customers, but it does happen.

 

As for getting out the spark plug, use a extendable magnet pointer. It looks like a pointer device that professors use, but has a magnet at the end. I have to do that to get the plugs out of their bottomless pit.

 

Holy crap! The most expensive plugs I've seen are Pulstar plugs, they run for $15 each. So thats 60 if they installed premuim plugs. If they installed some cheap Bosch plugs that cost like 3 bucks a pop, then thats still only 12 bucks for plugs! Thats ridiculous in my opinion, spark plugs are not difficult to change, you just need to know what youre doing.

 

Purchase a valve cover gasket set and see if the oil in the spark plugs comes back. Search for this information next time.

Yeah, that's what I thought too. When the vave job is included, that becomes a good price.
