Default Service transmission fluid

Can the transmission fluid be changed through the cooling lines? If so which one needs to be disconnected?

Should be able to; that's one way to "flush" the trans.

An over-simplified way to explain it...
One hose dumps old fluid out into a bucket.
One hose goes to a BIG funnel where you continuously pour fresh fluid in.
Problem is I don't know which hose is which 'cause all my cars have 3 pedals on the floor.
And you really REALLY don't want to allow the trans to keep running after you run out of new fresh fluid.

Honda auto-transmissions don't like to be "power-flushed" but this method is OK because:
- it uses the tranny's own pumps, no external pump
- you can use Honda ATF without any 3rd-party solvents or conditioners

I have done this technique with several of my cars. I run the car long enough to drain 2qts. Turn the car off and refill. Repeat.

I have looked through a number of trans fluid change threads but none seem to have the torque specs.

Would someone please list the torque specs for the transmission drain plug? I have a 2004 EX V6 auto, but I am sure others would appreciate the torque specs for the other engine/trans combos if someone had them handy.

How is mixing new fluid with old fluid the right way? You will never get all of the old fluid out.

you are always gonna mix old with new...you cant get all the tranny fluid out. The right way your suposta drain and fill and repeat couple times after driving the car.

Yes you can get all of the fluid out by going through the cooling lines.

Yeah, that's what I intended to say. This method with the hoses allows you to use genuine Honda ATF.

I actually think this method is OK because it does NOT use any external pumps. And it DOES NOT force you to use other fluids & stuff.

OTOH, drain & fill seems easier to me. Just reach a drain/fill interval that doesn't allow the ATF to get dirty in the first place.

the TQ converter stores fluid...I dont think you can get it all out. That why Honda tells you to drain fill and repeat
