Default Smoking after Head Gasket Replacement

So I finished up the Head job on my 90 and it is smoking like a MOTHER! I took it out on a semi-country road near my house, drove it about 4-5 miles round trip and it is still smoking.. I kept the original oil in the car, How can I get this thing to stop smoking??

Where or what is smoking?

Is it coming out the pipe, under the hood?

Head gasket failure is most likely if the smoke is bright white (steam) and you're losing coolant.

Why did new head gasket fail? Some possibilities are improperly aligned gasket, wrong gasket for engine, damaged gasket (bounced head on gasket), head not shaved flat, head not inspected for cracks and cracked head reinstalled.

There should be some missing on startup and loss of coolant if head gasket.

good luck

OEM Replacement Gasket, Machine shop shaved head, replaced valve guides, valve guide seals.
I took it for a really nice long drive 40+mins on the hwy, 55 mph and 2k rpm's
smoke from tailpipe is almost 100% gone after first 20 mins, when returned to my house smoke is unoticeable from tailpipe, however, I checked the fluids coolant is full, oil is OVERFILLED! So I will wait for the motor to cool a bit and drain some of the oil, and check it for water in oil at the same time. Will update after more checking around.
THANKS FOR YOUR HELP SO FAR EVERYONE!

knowing why it failed in the first place is important for you may have hairline cracks in the head. You need to dee if there is water in the oil. You are probably seeing steam emerging from your tailpipe.

Default Follow up

So to follow up. I drained the excess oil out of the car, about 1/2 a qt to 3/4 of a qt over full line, smoke is still pouring from exhaust, no water in the oil,not sure where to go from here..Im ready to scrap this whole thing..

Check PCV system closely; hose, valve, to be sure the PCV is not pulling oil from crankcase into intake. You would have an oily residue in the intake duct downstream of PCV air intake and on the throttle plate.

You should be able to distinguish oil smoke (blue-gray) from steam (bright white).

good luck
