Excellent news you stumbled on this thread and it helped you! Congrats on the diagnosis and fix!

Funny thing is I'm pretty sure it was installed improperly either at the factory or the dealer when I bought it. The wiring was sitting up against the sharp metal housing instead of being run through the same hole as the main harness. I could see the pattern from the black tape worn into the back of the sunglasses holder. I'm guessing this only became an issue for me this late in the game due to my move to Florida a couple years ago. I'm thinking the warmer climate probably softened the wire insulation enough that it cut through a little each time we used the homelink button.
