Default Something just fell off our car

We were driving down the road this afternoonand something near the front end started to eitherscrape the road, or started to touch a rotating object on the car. Then itfell off the car. It's possible that it was already on the road and flipped up into the car, but I don't think so. I think it's part of our car. Anyone know what this part is?

No idea what that is, but jack up the car and look to see if anythign looks like it's got a hole ripped into it. By those pictures if it part of your vehicle it was welded on and not bolted, so there should be corresponding dmg to whatever it was attached to. But quite frankly that doesn't look like a car part from a passenger vehicle. Not too many places a piece of steel like that would go.

I can tell by looking closely at this piece of sheet metal that it was not welded onto wherever it came from. It looks to me like it was held onto wherever it was by tabs that are either bent around something, or press-fit into a hole it was meant to cover.

At first I thought it was some part of the exhaust system, or maybe some kind of shield to prevent heat damage. Now I'm not so sure.

Hello Tony.......I am trying to visualize the underneath of a 92 accord ,, and that piece does not come to mind ,if anything it would be a piece of exh heat shield
you might want to raise the car up and chk it out but i would not be surprised to find out that it is NOT from your car ,,

Looking for a place for wherea partwascan be more difficult than finding where a part is.

Actually, I hope that it is not part of the car, but the fact that we heard rubbing before the part kicked out from under the car leads me to believe that it used to be part of the car.

I'll jack the car up tomorrow and examine the situation.

Judging from the way the corners are cut (by hand) and bent over... I'd guess it's some kind of home-made substitute for an exhaust heatshield.

Yep, that's what it looks like, but weare the original owners of the car and I never put anything like that on the car.

I took a cursory look under the hood today, but I cannot see where it could have been installed.

It's still a mystery.

I'll be changing the oil in a week or so, and then I'll have a look under the car.

It is also very possible it isn't even yours. Even though you heard it rattle aroudn before it 'fell off', it wouldn't be the first time someone picked something up off the road and gotten it temporarily lodged in the car before ti came loose again.
