Spark Plug and other maintenance recommendation needed
my 98 accord lx v6 needs to be tuned up.
I want to keep my car for the long term so I am willing to pay a few bucks (but not too much) more to extend the life of the vehicle.
Here's my list:
Spark plugs (what type is recommended, plat, double plat, brand, ngk, bosch, champion?)
Transmission fluid change (only use honda fluid?)
Radiator flush, (Honda fluid?)
Brake flush (Honda fluid?)
Oil (been using synthetic mobil 1)
Do i really need to use Honda fluids or will national brands be ok?

Plugs: NGK PZFR5F-11 - these are double plats - here is the best price I have found on them: http://www.sparkplugs.com/results_ap...p;AAIA=1315613
Trans fluid: From what I have seen in the forum..most of the resident expertsrecommend Honda fluid only.
Radiator: I thought you just put in antifreeze and water?
You will get mixed opinions on oil. I use Valvoline high mileage - I think it's called MaxLife(both of my cars have around 115k.) I change mine (or have it changed for me) every 3k miles.
You are correct on the transmission fluid change.
You may have seen something about it on the forum, but the transmission flushing services they try to do at your local auto service shops such as pepboysis not good at all for your transmission and could potentially ruin it.

I would call several different dealers in your area to get other prices on the trans fluid/oil. I haven't changed my trans fluid yet (I need to!) so I don't know what a good price is.
As far as the antifreeze goes, I would think "antifreeze is antifreeze" - it all should be made of the same stuff. I would buy that at AutoZone or WalMart.
I'm not sure about the brake fluid either as I have not done any brake fluid changes yet.I wouldcall a local Honda repair shop or dealer and ask them what kind they use and where to get it/how much it costs. Or do a search on the forum. I searched and found deserthonda (expert)said to use Dot 3 or Dot 4.
Hopefully one of our forum experts (We have a few Honda Techs)will get on here and correct me if I am wrong and give you the most accurate info.

Here's a thread I found: https://www.hondaaccordforum.com/m_31943/tm.htm
Looks like the general consensus was, as long as it's green and not red, it's fine.
